Gingerbread Parade - Participating Business Spotlight: Reclaimed
Jen Hawkins is the woman behind Reclaimed. She is a crafty genius who started out with a side business sewing Renaissance clothing - pieces that were shipped all over the country. About 6 1/2 years ago she got into painting furniture in her living room. She started collecting as she became absorbed into this new passion. And then, she got kicked out of the garage. So, about 5 years ago, she opened up shop out on Industrial Rd across from Rowdy's Range. And then, a big opportunity came about 4 years ago - she was able to get a prime location right on St. George Blvd. Her little business started out as "Jen's Furniture Rehab" - but it has since rebranded to Reclaimed.
She didn't always work in retail. Before owning and operating her own business, Jen worked for Intermountain Healthcare for 15 years. She says, despite retail having tough days, she could never go back to the corporate world where she worked before. Doing what she is passionate about makes life so much better. I couldn't agree more.
Reclaimed is not just a furniture boutique, one may also take classes and learn this art form for themselves. The one unique thing in the store is that all paint sold is Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. Chalk Paint® is a decorative furniture paint developed by Annie Sloan over 25 years ago. It very rarely requires any preparation, such as sanding or priming, and can be used indoors or outside, on just about any surface. It can revitalize old furniture, walls, ceilings, and floors with ease.
Here are some photos of her shop. Come have a look at the Gingerbread House - here on display until the morning of December 14th - at which point it will be moved to the Holiday Market at Ancestor Square (Dec 14th, 1:00-4:00 PM) for the Gingerbread Auctions. Reclaimed is number 7 on the tour map. All proceeds from the Gingerbread Auction will benefit the St George Children's Museum.
