Gingerbread Parade - Volunteer Baker Spotlight: Chelsea Hardy

Image
In her own words: I've always loved baking, but I didn't start making decorated cakes until I had my son five years ago. I started making decorated sugar cookies about 2 years ago and soon after I started Dulcet Cake Co. Last year's tour was the first time I'd made a real gingerbread house and I fell in love! Prior to that, I'd only done little graham cracker houses or pre-made. Before I started my family I was an interior designer. I've missed drawing blueprints and architectural drawings so building Big Ben was right up my alley.  I'm currently not taking any new orders but will post updates on my social media pages once I begin again. Thank you! Instagram.com/dulcetcakeco/ Facebook.com/dulcetcakeco/ A sample of her work below:  Chelsea Hardy is assigned to create a gingerbread house to be displayed at Dinosaur Discovery Site. Be sure and visit the Dinosaur Discover Site to vote for Chelsea's gingerbread hous

Gingerbread Parade - Participating Businesses Spotlight: Art and Soul Gallery & Gift/Print It, and Wide Angle Photography

Image
Artwork Copyright: Anita Wotkyns Did you know that the owner of Art and Soul Gallery & Gift (located at 55 N Main) is the same person that helps run the St George Children's Museum? This amazing person in our community gives and gives! Anita Wotkyns is the woman behind it all. The back of the gallery houses Print It - but the front of this little shop is Anita's contribution. She actually put it together as part of a college project. Her work is also found here and a small sample is available for purchase. Her style is whimsical rustic - which happens to be one of my favorite genres in art - I love her simple illustrations that are perfect for any baby nursery or child's bedroom. If any local artists out there are looking for a place to display their art - this is a great location that gets lots of tourist foot traffic. Come on in and check out the gallery for a perfect one-of-a-kind gift and artists may contact Anita for more information. Her husband,

Gingerbread Parade - Participating Business Spotlight: Affogato West at West Village

Image
Affogato West started out as a food truck over at Red Rock Bicycle Co. and then had the opportunity to have a "brick and mortar" location over at what was once Unicorn Hatch Labs. Then, owner Elise was going to move to a downtown location when she was presented with the opportunity to take over the lease for the whole building - on 1000 East. This building used to be a movie theater when I was a kid growing up in St. George, now it will house a whole new concept - not just a cool place to hang out and get coffee, smoothies or cocoa, but it includes a stage for open mic nights and room to showcase local artists, and much, much more. Additional information can be found in the about section on Affogato West's Facebook page . Like her page to keep up to date on what's happening now. Elise and her vision for Affogato and West Village are positively one of the best things to happen to St. George, Utah.  The gingerbread parade begins December 2nd - runs through December

Gingerbread Parade - Participating Business Spotlight: Hurst Ace Hardware General Store

Image
Hurst Ace Hardware General Store, located at 160 North Bluff Street will display a gingerbread house by local artist Kimberly Jackson. Ace Hurst General Store started out as a small "five in dime store in Panguitch Utah in 1946. Hurst Ace Hardware is now conveniently located in St George on the corner of Bluff Street and St. George Blvd. Hurst is not your average Ace Hardware with 30,000 square feet of lawn and garden, paint, tools, fabrics, sporting goods, clothing and workwear, feed and not to mention the most complete nut and bolt selection in town!" Did you know they also have a small post office inside? This provides convenience and that is not all - you can also get a little free popcorn while you shop. My son's favorite things to get here are toys! They have a great selection of games, puzzles, crafts, and other neat toys. Our community is lucky to have Ace Hardware Hurst General Store. We are grateful they are participating in the St George Gingerbread House Pa
