Gingerbread Parade - Volunteer Bakers Spotlight: Heidi Orr, Gina Blake, and Kathy Cerros

How did you hear about or get involved in the Gingerbread Parade?

We all work for Beehive Cottages which is a Senior Independent Living Community. We are blessed enough to work for a company that allows us to make almost everything from scratch and to buy and source locally. We got involved with the Gingerbread Tour last year through an invitation from our former activities director Anita Wotkyns. We are all very excited to be participating in this year's tour.


Our chefs are:
Heidi Orr- Over 30 years of experience cooking. She has worked fine dining, restaurants, catering, etc. She has always been interested in cooking. She copied her first recipe from a magazine when she was in 1st grade. It was for Chocolate Fudge Cake. She began cooking professionally in college. Her favorite type of baking is to add a new twist to old favorites. Her contact information is 435-680-0057   heidikorr@gmail.com

Gina Blake- Over 35 years of experience cooking. She learned the art of baking from her mother who was a fabulous baker. She can bake anything and is always excited to try new methods and recipes. Her family is a great testing ground. She loves to bring joy to people through her baking. Some of her favorite recipes are tied into special family events.

Kathy Cerros: Over 5 years of experience cooking. She brings her love of her family into her cooking. She is very precise and detail-oriented. She loves to make sure her desserts look as elegant and beautiful as they are delicious.


Their "Beehive Cottage" Gingerbread House Creation is on display at Bank of Utah Home Loans. It is listed as number 9 on our tour map. Stop by during business hours Monday-Friday 9 to 5 to see it in person. On December 14th, 1:00-4:00 PM it will be available for sale during the Gingerbread Auction at the Holiday Market located at Ancestor Square in downtown St George. All proceeds from the Gingerbread Auction will benefit the St George Children's Museum.

2020 - Mary Shipley - Volunteer Baker Spotlight

 A few years ago I got my children involved with Girl Scouts which means, I got sucked into participating as well - but actually I love Girl Scouts - it's a great program and I have met so many wonderful women because of it. One, in particular is Mary Shipley. Mary is the Volunteer Support Specialist for Girl Scouts of Utah. Basically, that means she goes around and hosts events to teach people about Girl Scouts and find moms, aunts or anyone really that would be interested in starting a troop for their girls or nieces. They have  events at the local library and they sometimes put on fun learning age-appropriate activities for the girls. When this is your motto: we build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place - then it's easy to get involved! Mary heard that I was doing this gingerbread thing - so of course, she volunteered to help. Graduation: 4 years of Gingerbread Parade

  For the last four years I have organized the St George Gingerbread House Parade. And this year, I declare that I have graduated from it. Yippee! I will from here on out be supporting the Jubilee of Trees.  This year I plan to make one Christmas Wreath and one Gingerbread House for charity to raise funds for St George Regional Hospital. I totally get it that a lot of people think that the hospital doesn't need our charity because they got money and we lowly people don't. But, let's try to reason why it's good for the community. Because of the philanthropy of the community, it benefits us. The hospital can expand and bring needed services to the area keeping the costs down for us. So, what I am doing is shutting down the nonprofit status of St George Gingerbread House Parade and any remaining funds in the business account will be distributed to a nonprofit in the area as per the rules of the Articles of Inc

Participating Business Spotlight: Ashcreek Academy
