Gingerbread Parade - Participating Business Spotlight: Dixie Watercolor Society at Gallery 35

Dixie Watercolor Society was established in 2001.  DWS welcomes all to join: beginners, students, professionals, consultants, and sponsors.  The mission of DWS is dedicated to promote, encourage, educate and advance watercolor artists and painting through meetings, demonstrations, lectures, workshops, classes and shows for the benefit of DWS members, other artists, and the general public. Regular DWS meetings feature demonstrations, guest artists, lectures, critique sessions, show and share, activity information as well as open discussions on new ideas, materials, and opportunities to show and sell.  For more information on joining, I invite you to visit their website here. 

Dixie Watercolor Society is proud to announce Gallery 35, an all watercolor gallery located at 35 North Main, in St. George Utah. This new gallery is a place where members of the Dixie Watercolor Society can exhibit and sell their transparent watercolor paintings. The Gallery will be open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday From 10am to 6pm. Check out their current show now, or visit next week during the annual Gingerbread Parade.
 Dixie Watercolor Society at Gallery 35 is listed as number 2 on the tour map. My good friend Michelle Joines will have her gingerbread house on display here during the parade. She will make it together with her Young Women's group. Come on out and vote for your favorites and be entered to win cool prizes during the Fundraiser - Gingerbread Auction at the Holiday Market co-sponsored by Downtown Farmers Market. It will take place at Ancestor Square on December 14th, 1:00-4:00 PM.

2020 - Mary Shipley - Volunteer Baker Spotlight

 A few years ago I got my children involved with Girl Scouts which means, I got sucked into participating as well - but actually I love Girl Scouts - it's a great program and I have met so many wonderful women because of it. One, in particular is Mary Shipley. Mary is the Volunteer Support Specialist for Girl Scouts of Utah. Basically, that means she goes around and hosts events to teach people about Girl Scouts and find moms, aunts or anyone really that would be interested in starting a troop for their girls or nieces. They have  events at the local library and they sometimes put on fun learning age-appropriate activities for the girls. When this is your motto: we build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place - then it's easy to get involved! Mary heard that I was doing this gingerbread thing - so of course, she volunteered to help. Graduation: 4 years of Gingerbread Parade

  For the last four years I have organized the St George Gingerbread House Parade. And this year, I declare that I have graduated from it. Yippee! I will from here on out be supporting the Jubilee of Trees.  This year I plan to make one Christmas Wreath and one Gingerbread House for charity to raise funds for St George Regional Hospital. I totally get it that a lot of people think that the hospital doesn't need our charity because they got money and we lowly people don't. But, let's try to reason why it's good for the community. Because of the philanthropy of the community, it benefits us. The hospital can expand and bring needed services to the area keeping the costs down for us. So, what I am doing is shutting down the nonprofit status of St George Gingerbread House Parade and any remaining funds in the business account will be distributed to a nonprofit in the area as per the rules of the Articles of Inc
