Gingerbread Parade - Participating Business Spotlight: Downtown Farmers Market

The Downtown Farmers Market started 11 years ago by the owner of the Painted Pony restaurant in Ancestor Square. She saw a need for it and it has only grown since then.  Last year it was taken over by newcomer Kat McCracken Puzey and she has grown it to what it is today. Generally, it runs May through October on Saturday mornings at Ancestor Square in downtown St. George. But, due to popular demand, there is now a second market held during the week, on Wednesday 4:00 to 7:00 PM indoors and year-round. It is held at West Village, 214 N. 1000 E, St. George, UT.

The Downtown Farmers Market is also co-sponsoring a Small Business Saturday, this November 30th at Atwood Innovation Plaza, DSU Business Resource Center, 453 S. 600 E. St. George, Utah, 9:00 AM -12:00 PM.

Kat is a business-savvy woman that aims to grow the market, support local artisans and farmers alike. When she isn't busy with the Farmers Market, she loves raising her own chickens, weaving - (she has a few pieces on display at the St George Art Museum right now), and she is raising one adorably-cute spirited little boy. She is an enthusiastic person that is helping this community in any way she can. She is a busy woman, and yet still makes time to bake and decorate her own gingerbread house for the parade and in addition to that, she is co-sponsoring the final fundraiser event for the Gingerbread Auction.

Downtown Farmers Market is holding a special one-time Holiday Market at Ancestor Square on December 14th, 1:00-4:00 PM.  This will be the location and time for our Gingerbread Auction. We will also have a bake sale to raise extra funds for the St. George Children's Museum. We will have baked goods from a few local in-home bakers like The Cookie Kitchen Bakery, Emma B Macarons, and even gingerbread man cookies from Harmon's Bakery.  All purchases on bake sale items will receive tickets and be entered to win prizes donated by the other participating businesses that are part of the Gingerbread Parade. We will also have live performances by DSU Raging Red, DMS Philharmonic Orchestra, Desert Nomads Belly Dance, No Limit Dance Studio, and others.

Downtown Farmers Market is listed as number 12 on the Gingerbread Parade tour map. Kat will have her gingerbread house on display during the tour dates December 2-13th, at West Village. On the 14th, all the gingerbread houses are moved to the final location for the auction, 1:00-4:00 PM.
