Gingerbread Parade - Volunteer Baker Spotlight: Erica Mangum

In her own words:

 I started creating my kid's birthday cakes 10 years ago. I would watch and help my mother-in-law deliver cakes. After my mother-in-law moved away I started making my kids’ birthday cakes then family birthdays and holidays. I liked it so much I started doing cakes for friends and now I do them for every occasion.

A lot of people wanted to see my creations. So I decided to create a Facebook and Instagram page.  My favorite thing to bake is definitely anything cake! It’s so fun to think of new designs and create them.  Check out my work.

Erica Mangum is assigned to make a gingerbread house creation to be displayed at Premier Dental. Be sure and check it out Dec 2-13 and vote for your favorites. All votes will be entered to win prizes during the Holiday Market & Silent Auction Fundraiser (in which all gingerbread houses will be auctioned for charity) at Ancestor Square, Dec 14th, 1:00-4:00 PM.

2020 - Mary Shipley - Volunteer Baker Spotlight

 A few years ago I got my children involved with Girl Scouts which means, I got sucked into participating as well - but actually I love Girl Scouts - it's a great program and I have met so many wonderful women because of it. One, in particular is Mary Shipley. Mary is the Volunteer Support Specialist for Girl Scouts of Utah. Basically, that means she goes around and hosts events to teach people about Girl Scouts and find moms, aunts or anyone really that would be interested in starting a troop for their girls or nieces. They have  events at the local library and they sometimes put on fun learning age-appropriate activities for the girls. When this is your motto: we build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place - then it's easy to get involved! Graduation: 4 years of Gingerbread Parade

  For the last four years I have organized the St George Gingerbread House Parade. And this year, I declare that I have graduated from it. Yippee! I will from here on out be supporting the Jubilee of Trees.  This year I plan to make one Christmas Wreath and one Gingerbread House for charity to raise funds for St George Regional Hospital. I totally get it that a lot of people think that the hospital doesn't need our charity because they got money and we lowly people don't. But, let's try to reason why it's good for the community. Because of the philanthropy of the community, it benefits us. The hospital can expand and bring needed services to the area keeping the costs down for us. So, what I am doing is shutting down the nonprofit status of St George Gingerbread House Parade and any remaining funds in the business account will be distributed to a nonprofit in the area as per the rules of the Articles of Inc
