Gingerbread Parade - Participating Business Spotlight: M&S Turquoise
Turquoise? I have - so I asked. M stands for Milne and S for Sevy. These two men started the M&S Turquoise wholesale business. Okay, let's back up a little bit. Let me give you a brief history in a nutshell. I am at the M&S Turquoise retail showroom talking to Brett Sevy, son of Mark Sevy. He is telling me the history. He said that a long time ago when he was a little kid, his dad and mom went to Hurricane with a briefcase full of Native American jewelry and arts, turquoise and silver type jewelry. They were wondering if anyone would be interested in this stuff. So, they took it to Hurricane to try and sell, and they sold all of it! So they thought, people must like this stuff and started the business. At first, it was mostly wholesale and they sold in Las Vegas. Brett grew up there and he describes the place as having a lot of crime so the family moved back up to St. George. At first, they just sold wholesale from the back of Milne Jewelers located on St. George Blvd, until space next door opened up. This was about 20 years ago. And then eventually, the other side of Milne Jewelers opened and so that's why on one side, you have the Wholesale and Jobbers and on the other side, they have the retail showroom. Brett said that years ago, the family bought out Milne's share of the business, so they joke that M&S stands for Mark and Sons... but really, the truth is it is for Milne & Sevy. Okay, there you have it.
So why should you buy your Native American jewelry, arts, and crafts from them? Well, they work with 50-60 area artisans to bring you legit Native American - local tribal jewelry, arts, and crafts. They also sell in many Native American Casinos throughout the west. They work closely with the Pauite Tribe - which includes our local Shivwits Band, Kaibab Band, Kanosh Band, and others.
M&S Turquoise also gives back generously. They hold a Pauite Tribe Toy Drive and a Shivwits Band Toy Drive (going on right now). And they are generous donors in this year's St George Gingerbread Parade. We have many awesome donations for the giveaway prizes during our fundraiser. All you have to do to enter (it's free - no purchase necessary) is to attend the parade tour. Visit the many different participating businesses to see their gingerbread trio on display. Fill out a little ballot with your name and contact information (a phone number is sufficient) and drop it in the box. On December 14th, between 1:00-4:00 PM we will draw winners. We will also be selling the gingerbread houses to earn money for the St. George Children's Museum. Come on out to the Holiday Market at Ancestor Square in downtown St. George on the 14th - to participate. See ya there :)
As you can see, they have a wide selection of tribal arts, crafts, and jewelry.
