2021 - Spotlight on Volunteer Baker, Mikah Harrison
Gingerbread Creations on display at
Stop #12 Dinosaur Discovery Site
and Stop #14 FR3NZY
The enthusiastic Mikah, reached out to me to ask if she could do a gingerbread house for the parade this year. And I was like, heck ya. I always like it when people come to me - because it's confirmation that this is a good thing to do with my free time. I like working together to build this community event and Mikah has been super helpful.
She said she has a friend that owns a store, so not only did she volunteer to make a gingerbread house and she also suggested a business to display it at. Which is way cool. That business is FR3NZY. Luckily I was familiar with it since I'm a fan of candy, and while walking by there one day, stopped in to buy all the salt water taffy my foodie heart could desire. Heck ya - I love that stuff.
We had another volunteer baker come down with Covid, sadly and at the last minute, Mikah was able to make just one more creation to cover that other business as well. That one will be on display at the Dinosaur Discovery Site, stop #13 on the parade map. I think that Mikah is smart because she has enlisted the help from some friends a long the way. To them, I say, Thank You!
I bet you all are wondering about this Parade Map... it's coming soon, watch for it... follow along! :-)
Now, a little more about Mikah from her mouth:
"I'm a stay-at-a-home-mother of 5. Most of my time goes to helping my kids grow to be the beautiful people they are. Over the years I've searched for a hobby that I can do at home. I've learned that I love to make and share yummy things. I make everything that sounds fun to me in the moment: cakes, macarons, cookies, bread, you name it.
"I started making gingerbread houses for my family and friends years ago. It is a tradition that started out really small, but has grown a little each year. It's a lot of work, but I love doing it so we can spend time together as a family, and that our friends can spend time with theirs. Ultimately, that's what's most important to me and what I'm passionate about - is what experiences we get to share together. "
I couldn't agree more. As a stay-at-home mama myself - this is what I came up with to do with my time, not necessarily baking gingerbread but you know, organizing this event, acting as liaison between bakers and businesses :-)
